Middle Georgia Regional Commission is seeking to fill the position of Community Development Specialist.

A Community Development Specialist is responsible for grant writing and administration, economic development, personnel management, effective governance, transportation, hazard mitigation, and community planning.  This professional position engages in local government issues involving administration, project management, and developing innovative solutions in coordination with member governments. It involves the application of considerable knowledge, research, and planning in matters of government, public administration, community and economic development, housing, transportation, planning, historic preservation, and any related matters.  Specifically, this position requires a talented individual who can collaborate with local governments in a professional, resourceful, trustworthy, accountable, efficient, and innovative manner.

Qualified applicants should, at a minimum, have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, urban planning, or a related field from an accredited college or university in addition to one to two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge or experience in transportation planning and mobility management is a plus.  A master’s degree in public administration, public policy or urban planning is preferred.

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented individual who can engage effectively with coworkers and community members to provide quality customer service. Candidates should have a strong vision and desire to facilitate positive change that moves the region forward. A candidate must be able to address challenges with enthusiasm and positive energy that demonstrates a love for the work of growing and improving communities.
